It sleeps four not 7!

Post by harcourtv57 »

Its happened again - enquiry for our apartment, which sleeps four in 2 bedrooms for next April - wedding party. Keen to book, sent them details and they have now returned the booking form.

Hoorah! But on reading it it says four adults, then in brackets, possibly another adult - errr where are they going to sleep then :? and then underneath, 2 children aged 9 and 6

So although the listing states 4 and our e-mail gives the price for four persons, there are suddenly another 2, possibly 3 that they think we can accommodate . . . .

Hi, no don't think so, from the name it sounds Eastern European - now waiting for the 'its ok we can bring airbeds' scenario . . . .

I just had an enquiry for 19 people (we sleep 12) for just one night, New Year's Eve! They were French.

Children don't count as part of the occupancy rate for the French. I have no complaints at all about the tarif for 10 -12 adults for a weekend in my big house, but let more infrequently (for non pont weekends) for 6 adults and 6 children as it is too expensive.

i've just had one for 8 people in my place that's 2 bedrooms; I already allow a maximum of 6 because I know some people like to pack 'em in.... but 8!!!

Best of all, there's 1 adult (aged 26) and 7 children aged 9-11!

no thank you...

She has just come back to say they assumed that as well as the bedrooms, two people could sleep on the sofas in the lounge - but if necessary they will find accommodation elsewhere for the 7th person

I'd really like to know what response they would get from a hotel if they booked a double room and then turned up with five people . . . .

We never take over occupancy. Its not just the lack of beds but the wear and tear an excess of people can make on the general fabric of the gite.

What are you going to do Harcourt?

Decline?

I think if you allow 6, they'll sneak the 7th in anyway on an airbed and assume that if you find out (which you will) that you won't turf them out...

I will decline it - we used to take extra persons sometimes as we had a sofabed, but thats now gone in favour of two large leather sofas - which don't convert to sleeping accommodation.

And yes extra persons is extra wear and tear and extra hot water etc etc.

I declined the booking, explaining how we can only accommodate four persons. As predicted a message has come back
'any chance we can put airbeds in the lounge, we are happy to pay more'

Sounds to me like they've discovered this website & thread and are now following the suggestions made by contributors to get booked!
