Post by Wonkeye »

Small companies will see the one-year holiday on business rates extended – due to expire in October 2012 – for a further six months

We are about to buy a second house to holiday let (fingers crossed we're completing this Friday!). We're already getting small business rate relief on the first house we own as a holiday let. I just wondered if anyone knew offhand whether we would be able to claim the same relief on a second property?
We're all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars

Very canny! Unfortunately in my case one is joint and one is mine alone, so my name on both. :(

Our Welsh cottages BOTH qualify for 'rate relief', which is currently 100% discount!

Thanks for this will also sign - however am totally confused. Following advice on this site I enquired with the council as to whether one of our properties should go onto business rate which I understood to be currently exempt?

next thing we know we received a £1000 rebate for the residential rates - yippee !- but swiftly followed by a bill for £2500  which they want us to pay in 3 instalments in jan to march!!!!!! Firstly I thought we should be currently exempt and secondly why on earth are the business rates more than double domestic rates? Esp when they don't even remove rubbish. Now thinking I may have made a big mistake by applying . . . .
