virus problems

Post by Ju »

I've got a virus attack on my PC (it really isn't my week).

Avast finds the virus but seemingly can't delete it. I've lost all my programes (or rather I can no longer find them) and all my files. I can connect to the internet but only by going through avast and asking for support which opens up IE

The avast support has generated a file which I'm supposed to load up using filezilla, only I can't as I can't see my programs. I'm losing the will to live.

Virus is a Rootkit MBR Alurion k

Any ideas?

I'm sure someone more expert can help, but downloading and running this
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... er-offline

is recommended for rootkit viruses on the Geeks to Go forum

Thanks LV. I'll try and download that on the laptop and reboot the PC with it.

Suggest that you d/l and run malawarebytes from here
http://www.malwarebytes.org/

see if that helps

Also, the site http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/

Thanks JB, I've already tried malwarebytes. It found and deleted something but not the alurion virus.

Avast can see it but not delete it.

I've now got my wallpaper back but still no file structure and I've lost internet connection.

Good job I've got the laptop.

Thanks Helen I'll give it a try. It is certainly pernitious. I've tried spy bot, rouge killer, malwarebytes and several others.
