I just received this via anibis (a Swiss site):

my price for that week being 572 Swiss Francs.
(How) would you respond to that?

I'd respond by saying ' I think there must be a misunderstanding; the rate for the requested week is........'

Ciao Pam! how are you darling?
That very apartment has been already booked by a friend of a guests we had last year, at the beginning of this month.
Maybe this offer is the result of all the "Italy is sinking into debts" campaign, but I really don't know how they will get a nice property with pool for 290,00 euro...
Usually, outside high season, I am happy to offer a 2 bedroom apartment at the very same price of the 1 bedroom, but I don't want these persons...
What is the phrase... If you give peanuts, you get monkeys...?

I'd tell him to go and yodel.

With economic gloom descending on Europe, opportunists are everywhere, playing on renters' doubts.

'Twas ever thus, just a bit worse now - hold firm, it's only March after all.

When I get an underpriced offer I just adapt my standard response:

Dear X,

many thanks for your enquiry.

La Fenice is available for that week, but the price is 572 SF.
(Or simply I'm sorry but the price for that week is 572 SF)

If you would like more information, don't hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes,

Me

I would go with LL's response. Always a good idea to keep it civil, methinks.
