I am looking to treat my parents to a night with half board accomadation in the lake district ( they are both 'young at heart' 70 year olds)

rural but not isolated location
traditional - no need for gyms or spas
a home from home experience
nice views, gardens etc
home cooked traditional british fare evening meal service a MUST
not to big - want them to receive a personalised service

Have a look at the Drunken Duck near Outgate, or the Punchbowl at Crosthwaite.
I've stayed in both for the odd night here and there. Perhaps a bit more contemporary than traditional, but not to the point of having gyms/spas.
If anywhere else springs to mind (I'm sure there must be LOADS of places that fit the bill), I'll post again in due course.
