I have over the past couple of hours received no fewer than 15 texts from Google with a verification code. I had not asked for the first three at all and so decided it was time to change my password as presumably someone was trying to hack my email. This all happened subsequent to receiving the weird email described in scams thread this morning.
The messages have continued since I changed the password - all the same code. Of course you can't actually contact Google, or so it would seem. Any of you teccies out there got any ideas?

My best guess is from reading the above that you have setup the Google verification by SMS but your browser keeps putting you in as a new user?
Bob
P.S although it is annoying. It does seem to be offering a good security. Better than being hacked. I don't think you are having a constant attack more just a setting in the browser you are using.
I will look some more and see what I can find.............mind you we are just about to open the 2nd bottle , so can't promise help tonight

The point of 2 step verification is that if you log on using a different computer, you will be asked to verify the use of that computer by the sending of a code to your mobile (Ie. that if it's not YOU using a different device, it's a scammer who won't have the correct verify codes to log on because they are sent to your phone.)
I know it's annoying but you can set it so that for any new device, it's set for the next 30 days and won't ask you EVERY time you log on.
It does take a bit of getting used to and if you are abroad or anything different, you'll have to verify.
But it's better than some scammer closing down your account...

Yes I am quite happy with the concept of 2SV. Unfortunately my old laptop, which I am now using pending repair of No 1 which has totally crashed - see thread in scam emails - has lost the ability to store cookies.Nightowl wrote:The point of 2 step verification is that if you log on using a different computer, you will be asked to verify the use of that computer by the sending of a code to your mobile (Ie. that if it's not YOU using a different device, it's a scammer who won't have the correct verify codes to log on because they are sent to your phone.)

The repeated sending of the same code was nothing to do with logging on again - they were just being sent willy-nilly which made me think that it was a problem caused by my hacker but now I read thanks to Medoc Bob that this is a common problem of late with google.
