If it's any comfort something similar happened last year except that, this year, bookings were brisk over the bank holiday itself.
The last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday have been very quiet on the bookings front. The average per day reduced to a third of what it was in August.
Previous years show an upturn in bookings for the Autumn and the start of bookings in earnest for the next year, when the schools go back over the next two weeks.
The weather people say Autumn could be warmer than average.

Autumn/early winter seems surprisingly good to me....
approx 9 weeks booked to year end inc Xmas
approx 6 weeks free to year end inc NY
but everyone seems to want a deal!

This deals thing, I think, has been caused by growing confusion pricing of the large legacy agencies.
The money off, DFS approach seems to be infecting other areas and leaving guests with the impression that cottage owners refusing to discount are, in some way, trying to cheat them.
Heaven forbid that the reality is that many offer good value. If you do not discount you are often considered suspect. However, it is comforting to know that most guests do not think this way; but they have learnt to try it on. What have they got to lose?
