Controling Central Heating or not !!!!!

Post by glynmeek »

Hi all, just after a bit of advise on how you all manage the controlling of your central heating for guests, we have a easy to use 7 day control panel with room thermostat, which is fine but if we for example set the heating to come on at say 7am for a couple of hours we then face the problem that some guests want it hotter for longer some guests want it cooler and some dont want any heating at all, so we have took to setting all the thermostatic radiator valves to a low to medium setting, switching off the wall thermostat and leaving the heating on constantly, we then tell the guests if they want the heating higher or lower in each room they can control it by adjusting each rooms radiator valve, or they can just turn the heating off at the control panel, i would be pleased to hear how other people manage there heating in this world of ever increasing fuel prices :?

We have heating on constant and use the thermostat to control.
It is better to remain quiet and have one think you are stupid, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt....

The biggest mistake we make in life is thinking we have time.

There's been lots of threads about heating recently. With the cold weather in the UK people have needed the heating on more.

We have two time periods per day programmed, with stickers on the programmer asking people not to change these as it was a pain changing them back every week. Besides that some people really didn't know what they were doing and messed the whole timer up.

If people want extra heating/hot water outside those hours we tell them to press either the 'extra hour' or 'override' button which just advances to the next programme. Then when that finishes the system will switch off - until the next timed programme.

This seems to work OK. Some guests who came for a weekend in March emailed in advance to ask about the heating, saying they would probably want it on all night!! I replied saying it was a very warm house and possibly they wouldn't need it on all night, but they could have done that with the advance feature.

Lots of people have fitted remote heating control systems - there are some threads on the forum.
