Hi Stephen. We have literally just renewed our insurance and found it a bit of a struggle as a number of companies just didn't want to know holiday homes.

In the end Talbot Insurance in Kendal provided an excellent service - and identified a good value insurance policy. I don't have the telephone number to hand, but can gladly get it for you. It could be helpful with your Cumbrian connections.

Hope it helps.

PS: Good to see that there is at last a country-specific topic for the UK and Ireland!

I have little, in fact no experience or knowledge of insurance companies who deal with holiday home insurance, but I did receive a letter from Saga.

http://www.saga.co.uk/finance/holidayhome/

Not sure if this helps!

Hello Darren - the Saga info probably depends on your age more than anything!

Stephen, glad we could help. Hope you don't need to draw on your insurance! :?

Just out of interest, does the insurance arranged through Talbot cover accidental damage? We were told that no-one would provide this cover for a holiday home.

Cheers

Yes Christine they did offer accident damage, cant remember exactly how much extra but I think it was about £100.

My insurance expires in a couple of weeks and I will definately
be taking up their offer.. :D It just shows you its best to shop around, and I have been with Swintons for 2 years and £609
was the best offer on the market they said

Thanks again

Christine, Saga generally has marketed it's products at the older end of the travel market, but I understand they are moving away from that branding.

I have no knowledge on insurance, it's just a letter that was sent to me because of some marketing I participated in a year or so ago.

Maybe I'm too late with this information but it may be useful for others.
Hill House Hammond, now called UK holiday homes by Norwich Union ins.co. phone 0121 4494511,
charged £85.50 for liability & contents.
Also for building insurance, try your mortgage lender.
It'll be allright if you don't weaken

Hallo again! I've just come back to the forums in a rare idle moment, and thought this might be interesting.

I have used Schofield's (http://www.schofields.ltd.uk/index.htm)
for about 12 years; they specialise in holiday cottages and have third party cover as well as loss of rental income.

I've had to claim twice for water pouring through a ceiling - the first time when the unoccupied house upstairs was flooded during severe frosty weather because a week-ender had put its main water supply back on, and the second when the communal roof had been under repair and a tarpauline blew off in a violent storm. In both cases the response from the company was immediate and very helpful, and the loss assessor most pleasant to deal with.

My premium this year was £396, last year £383. I thought it was a lot , but reading this forum has shown me how good it is :D

We use Schofields too - they have a comprehensive policy and were about half the price of the next best quote we got.

It's good to read that they are good at handling claims too!

Best wishes

Hi folks. I'm just about to renew my holiday insurance so hope you don't mind if I "refresh" this thread.

The best quote I've had so far for £200,000 building insurance and £20,000 contents insurance (new for old) is £357.44 - no accidental damage. I'm going to try the companies mentioned when this thread was live. Just wondered if anyone was aware of any other good companies worth trying.

Cheers
