Display iCal feed on website?

Everything to do with using your own website to advertise your rental property. Design, usability, hosting, getting listed on the search engines, optimising your site, pay-per-click, etc, etc.

Display iCal feed on website?

Post by DaveT »

Does anyone use an iCal feed to display their calendar on their own website?

I've been looking for a solution to display iCal feeds on a WordPress site. There are a few plugins that look promising but I thought I'd ask here before I start testing in case anyone has any suggestions :)

I could never find one that looked decent and was free (or very cheap). If you do find one I would love to know and test it out myself.

Also look at https://www.availabilitycalendar.com/

But, I didn't know that any of those listing sites (HomeAway, FlipKey, AirBNB, VRBO) offered you the option to EXPORT ics???

Can anybody tell us how to do that ?

There are a few of those site hosting what looks to be the same calendar. I refuse to pay for something like that by subscription and also would prefer not to have something hosted on another site. It takes me a maximum of 2 minutes to add a booking to my current, non iCal calendar. That means I waste about 30 minutes a year on the task. Paying a yearly fee to save 30 minutes is not worth it IMHO.

I'd be happy though to pay a small, one off fee, like that Wordpress plugin. Heck I could even make a Wordpress site just to host calendars for everyone else and charge yearly/monthly for it. Oops, it's already being done.

The export is apparently possible:

Thanks Kev,

That looks pretty good actually. Would be perfect for a single user site. I might be able to tweak it for what I need.

Thanks, but I'm also looking for a self-hosted solution.

DaveT, thanks, I know what the URLS look like. Also thanks to Kev for the HomeAway link. The next question is how to find them on airBnb and Flipkey/TA/HL or any other listing sites

It's there on Airbnb but I couldn't find it on the others.

Click your name in the top-right corner of airbnb.com
Select Your Listing
For the listing you want to edit, click Manage Listing and Calendar
Click Settings in the top-right corner of your calendar view
Under Sync Calendars, select Export calendar
Copy and paste the Airbnb calendar link into your iCal applications

Perhaps we celebrate too soon. Has anybody actually looked at the .ics file from Airbnb ?

I looked at mine and it only contains one (apparently random) booking from April 2015, which was not even placed through AB. It does, however import successfully and all my bookings are faithfully reproduced in their online calendar.

The export seems flawed

I'd be interested to know if others see anything different

Regarding the exports, the urls look something like...
Can you remove these links please, lots of lovely juicy information that I'm sure your guests wouldn't like to be shared.

Edit : You delete yours and I'll delete mine :D
