Yes, carte bancaire is just a bank card - usually a debit card though it all works a bit differently here! Nothing to be concerned about.

Actually I just want him to pay by virement bancaire which is what all my French guests do quite happily.

A holiday payment either flight or accommodation made with a french credit/debit card especially gold card includes a good travel insurance for the holder.

In fact he's said that bank transfer is fine with him so hoping that comes through in a couple of days.

Also, unless you've got credit card facilities you can't take payment using the card anyway!
