Guest Manual

Post by Foxandsot »

Hello Everyone

I'm in the process of putting the guest manual together and was wondering if any of you could let me know what kind of info you put in. So far my list of things to go in the manual:

Emergency services numbers
Pharmacy, hospital, doctor etc details
Things to see and do both locally and islandwide
Favourite restaurants and bars

Thats about it

Any ideas?

Thanks

Michelle

Michelle, most manuals also include lots of bits about the property itself - where to find this and that (eg instructions for appliances), requests about the care of certain items, disposal of rubbish, all the practical things about the running of a home and any quirks it might have; things do get explained when our caretakers meet and greet, but people are usually tired when they arrive, so there's a limit as to how much they can take in then.

Carole-Anne, this was discussed somewhere else on the forum recently, and I created a feedback form as a result, which I prefer to send to guests on their return, together with their security deposit. This is because I'm a 'remote', rather than on-site-or-nearby owner; as you are on site, do you rescue them from yourvisitors' book on changeover day? I haven't had much negative feedback, but I wouldn't want that to be viewed by other guests necessarily - it might also influence their own perceptions a bit.

I leave a visitors' book, like most of us, which the guests write in, but the feedback form needs to be completed when there is less haste, and the guests are back home I think. The questions I ask on it are very specific, and I've also recently added a questionnaire on the criteria the guests used in searching for their ideal holiday, as this has provided us with useful marketing information.

But it's important to anyone who posts the form, to include a self-addressed envelope, stamped, if possible. So far I have had 100% return.

I look on mine as a "work in progress" and I add to it whenever I (or a guest) think of something else. I changed it quite alot in the early days!!

Guest Manual

Post by jordan2 »

Personally, I put each heading in alphabetical order then guests can refer to it quite easily. I send this out with the 'receipt of balance letter' to give them a bit of time to digest some of it and also leave it in a folder at the property. Perhaps also a floor plan so they can quibble over who's having what bedroom?!

Does everyone call it a Guest Manual, it sounds really formal! I prefer Welcome Pack but then that's what people call the 'grocery pack' - What's the norm? :?

Know what you mean Jordan, but can't think of another title - "Guest (or visitors') Handbook" perhaps? When they see ours, it's not formally written, so that's the bottom line.
