Sending a Map
Sending a Map
Im not sure if this is the right place for this but...
I would like to email enquirers a map with the position of the houses is marked.
I can email the ones you get off the internet & have.
I also have some printed that I send out with places marked and a separate sheet with how long to walk/drive there etc.
I havent got a scanner but probably could get access to one
Is there anyway this can be done
Thanks

this is very easy to do - I have turned a map into a .pdf file which can easily be emailed, viewed and printed.
If you'd like some help - I'd be happy to assist.

Hi Rexer and welcome to the Forum,
It looks like lots of us would like to know how to do this. (If it is legal) would it be possible for you to post the steps in this thread for all of us to read?
This would be appreciated by many.
Thanks.

OK,
it's very easy to do if you have the right software.
I'm lucky enough to have a full edition of Adobe Creative Suite.
Anyone who wants me to create a .pdf for them - the easiest thing for me is for you to contact me by private message on this site, then we'll talk by email.
It's very straightforward, but you do need to have a good map of the area to start with.
Hope this helps, and I'm pleased to be able to be of some limited use to the forum - I've learned a lot by lurking on this site - there's nothing else like it!
And, by the way - it's very easy for me to speak (and think) slowly - I'm Aussie!
Just to elaborate on the steps involved.
1. The easiest way to do it all is either within powerpoint or word. It doesn't matter.
2. Find an electronic map of your area. Usually very straightforward to do by googling the name of your locale and map
3. Copy this into word / powerpoint
4. Use the drawing and text functions of powerpoint / word to add various items of interest 'x marks the spot' etc.
5. Use Adobe Acrobat to turn it all into a .pdf
In terms of legalities - I've never considered that before. All you are doing is pointing out bits on a map of interest to your guests. It's hard for me to see how that could upset anyone, but I live in a different country to most of you so I stand ready to be chastized for that one!

Thanks for the offer. Me thinks you must be a rich Aussie who can afford the full edition of Adobe Creative Suite. What is the approx cost (in real money please, not Aussie $Rexer wrote:OK,

I take that comment as it was offered - in jest!
I'm sure that this is not the appropriate place to be discussing individual net worth.
But anyway, my copy of Adobe CS is fully legal - and I didn't have to pay for it myself. I have a teaching appointment at a University and I use the software for work.
And, from the Universities point of view, you must understand that the per unit cost becomes a lot more reasonable when you are purchasing a couple of hundred licenses at a time.
Hope this helps clarify things!

Don't worry Ros, I'll still help everyone who wants to sort out stuff like this. It's actually quite simple.Ros wrote:OOH Dont upset him Alan ,

I might be new to this forum, but suffice to say I'm not new to forums generally and enjoy a bit of banter.

Good on yer mate! A bit of banter makes things interesting!
Thanks for the tips on how to convert - I think using Word may be the easiest for most people. I did a quick check on the cost of the full Adobe suite and came out at about £600 (for the standard version) so that made me sweat a bit!
Have a good day (or whatever you Aussie's say).

sometimes I think the greatest benefit that I received from doing a PhD was becoming an expert in microsoft word and powerpoint.
By the way, in powerpoint (at least) you can save your slide as a .jpg - after you've finished editing it etc so that it can be simply emailed as an image.
