Good blog topics: anything travel related ( tips, etc), sites and things to do in your area.
Following other blogs and swapping links can be a good way to increase traffic on your blog. Also, doing a google search for SEO can probably give you some tips as well.

Seasonal things help give potential guests a flavour of the area at different times of the year, for example we have bluebells out at the moment. Local seasonal food - maybe even include a recipe. A blog can encourage your previous guests to think about coming back at different times. The hardest thing I find is actually writing the posts so being disciplined about doing it regularly is important (that's as much for my own benefit as yours!).

BTW FathfullTravels - welcome to Lay My Hat :D

I have found that copying sections of a blog to fb, with a nice picture, works better than sharing the blog on my FB page and gets more likes, although I do share the blogs themselves (sometimes several times at intervals) when I remember.

I don't know how to get subscribers and I'm not sure if anyone reads my blogs, I just hope they help with SEO, for example if someone googles 'place to eat in [my area]'.

Over time I have developed a system. I pick a theme for the month, for example as above, 'great places to eat' and each week I post a short paragraph and a picture on my FB page on one cafe or restaurant. The first post will be an introductory one, usually with a couple of options in our village itself, and the others will be a bit further afield. They are all places I have been and can give an honest opinion on, so the posts are relatively quick and easy to write. I try to vary them - for example, posh, mid range and quick and easy option. Then at the end of the month I compile them into a blog post for my website.

Not sure if this is the best approach but it works for me.

Thanks

I have a blog on my site, I try and provide tips from what guests have said to us about where they have visited or plan to visit, a things to do type guide for my area is providing some traffic, I promote it on facebook and twitter quite heavily, drawing on my experience of being a semi-pro blogger a few years ago.

Instagram is a great place to promote especially if you love taking photos, maybe a YouTube channel if you have the time or inclination to promote that way.
Bloggers can register their blog/site on https://www.hibs100.co.uk/, this can help generate traffic to your site.
