New Scarborough Let

Hi all,

We're nearing completion on our holiday let in Scarborough, and would appreciate some feedback on the website.

Sandy Palms

We know it's photo-lite at the moment, but these will appear over the coming weeks as the furniture arrives, and as we put up paintings and ornaments, etc. The ones that are there will almost certainly change, too.

We're aiming for the family market (and provide a lot of things that kids need that are a pain to pack) but it's also suitable for adult groups.

Your thoughts are appreciated...

Thanks!

Photos are waaaaaay ttooo large.
for example.
This one http://sandypalms.co.uk/wp-content/uplo ... lbum25.jpg is 4,358.59 KB (4,463,195 bytes) 3888 × 2592 pixels) If the rest are the same that would explain why the album is taking a long time to load.
In the album could not see any shots of the interior. This is very important for the customers.
Maybe something to add when the renovation is complete?
When I squeeze the size of my browser as if I was looking at your website on a smaller screen all sorts of crazy things happen to the layout.

Yes, that's something we definitely need to fix. We wanted to get a bunch of images up first, though, so we could check the general look and feel.

Yes, I mentioned in the OP that this is something we're working on over the coming weeks.

How small a screen do you mean? It should be ok for most monitors, and it will automatically change for mobile platforms. Could you let me know what happens, so I can take a look at it?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I looked on an iPad mini and the layout wasn't perfect, but it was ok. A few thoughts:

* I wouldn't say 'not palatial' for the kitchen, sounds a bit negative, I would just be honest and say 'small, well equipped kitchen' or something like that.

* It's not clear how you book until you get to the availability and rates page. I would make it clear you can book online on the home page, with a link to the booking page. And I would call the availability page some thing like 'check availability and book' so it's clear.

Your place looks lovely and I love your descriptions of the rooms etc, they make it sound very enticing.

Hope this helps
Jenny

Ah, interesting, thanks. It looks like when the browser is made smaller below a certain size it defaults to the mobile template, but keeps the desktop settings. That'll take some thought, thanks.

You can use an online tool to optimize your photos and still maintain the quality. I use https://tinypng.com/ for all my photos so that I can decrease the load time of my website. Hope this helps.
