Hi,
I want to build a new website for my holiday villa and I am looking for advice about which will be the best platform to elect, considering:
1- Google rankings
2- Costs
3- Difficulties level of website management
Thank you very much,
Carlos Capaz

We went for WordPress because it's so widely used that there is a wealth of knowledge out there; loads of options for templates (themes) and add-ons which make it relatively simple to integrate calendars, enquiry forms, etc. Here's my take on it:

1. Google rankings - you need to read up a bit and make sure you set things up properly (don't mention canonical URLs!). But, I think that's the same with every platform.

2. Costs: We're using the Divi theme from Elegant Themes which is quite nice out of the box and can be customised a great deal. It's not free - $89 per year, which works for me as I have about 5 sites using it. Maybe a bit pricey if you've just got the one site.

There are lots of free WP themes around although they tend to be harder to customise.

We pay for specialist WP hosting (freshsites.co.uk) although you don't necessarily have to. It's often a free option on standard hosting packages.

You can (and should) use it with your own domain name.

3. Difficulties level of website management: WP's OK for non-techies to use with a little training but I haven't used Wix so I don't know how that compares. Also, some themes are harder to work with than others. I wanted something that other people (like my OH) could edit if I was out of action for some reason. He uses WP for his business web site so he would be able to find his way around it at a push.

Hope that helps. Now you need a Wix user to give you the other side.

Hi

I can only speak about using the Wix platform as I never used Wordpress
I chose Wix for the number of templates, how easy to use and it is mobile friendly , I was using another website builder where you had to build a separate mobile site

I am still glad I chose Wix , they continually bring out new features , lots of help videos and most of all great free support , I found I needed this , still do , it is when you get stuck or as you get more comfortable with the Wix Editor, you want to do more and they are there to help
Hope that helps
Larry

I use Wordpress, and would agree with what Joanna says. :)
