We are having problems with guests messing with the heating controls and upsetting the boiler.

I previously looked into a heatmiser system, but that was when they were fairly new and there are lots of other systems now.

We are after heating controls where we set it up on the internet for their arrival and they can only override it for example by + or - 5 deg C - can anyone tell me a system(s) that does this?

I've just had a nest installed, I think you can remotely lock the min and max temps while allowing the guests to still adjust the temperature, but I haven't had a chance to sit down and look at it properly yet.

With these you can access over the net and control the heating, switch it on / off set a max and min temp and lock the device so that the max and min cannot be altered by the guests and more. I understand it also records usage for 7 days too so you can see when and how long the heating's been on for and i understand at what temperatures too.

We have Nest installed and can remotely control the heating. We have set a maximum temp which cannot be overridden by the guests. We are also able to turn the heating on remotely when we know guests will not be arriving until really late (nothing more off putting than arriving to a cold house).
As we live over 100 miles away it has been very useful; saves heating the house when nobody is around and at the same time allows some control by the guests.

We've now been using a Heatmiser SmartStat for a year and have been very pleased with it. You can apply a remote lock, and say how much the guests can change the temperature while it is locked. It reverts to your settings at each transition. We've had no complaints (yet!). You can also change the frost temperature. In fact you can change most things.

Then put a dummy thermostat on show, the guests will think they are turning it up

Do people think I make these things up Mrs T really thinks she in control although her concept has always been of a rotary on off switch rather than a thermostat

This is a great thread, I think men would actually buy a dummy thermostat!
