Paying cleaner/maintenance people

Post by Ali_L »

Hi,

I am new to the holiday letting scene, and my property will be ready to let in a couple of weeks. I just wondered how you pay your cleaners or any other general maintenance work?

I am concerned if I pay with cash I will have no records for tax purposes.

Thanks in advance,

Ali

Ask your maintenance people for an invoice.

Most cleaners/maintenance people accept payment by bank transfer nowadays unless they're deliberately avoiding paying tax - and if that's the case, do you want to entrust them with access to your property?

Yes, good point above.

I pay by bank transfer. That way the amounts show on a dedicated bank account (for the business) monthly statement. I transfer the totals onto the spreadsheet I prepare for the accountant.
This seems to keep everyone happy (so far).

We receive an invoice from anyone and everyone we deal with and pay them by bank transfer. Our cleaner bills us on a monthly basis, whereas the gardener prefers to be paid at the end of the letting season.
