Damage to property by guests at a B&B

Post by aasta »

Hello! This is a first for us: Guests have just informed us that they dropped a bottle on the bathroom sink which chipped the sink. In our terms and conditions guests agree that they are responsible for any larger damage. We have insurance but it does not cover the first €300.- and replacement of sink will possibly be that.

But these guests were booked by a Walking Tour company and they do not feel responsible, since they did not book directly with us and never saw our terms and conditions. .... I called the walking company in England and was told that it was an accident and that it is the nature of the business that hotels/guesthouses have to expect damages and pay for such themselves. Is this true?

We do not have any experience with damage to porcelain. Can chips be filled in? Or can it just be left...will it discolor over time? Chip is on edge of basin underneath the faucet.
Thanks for any feedback!!

yes accidents happen. All part of the business.
You can purchase small paint repair kits at most DIY stores. Do a search for products and videos for clarity of the instruction. There are different methods which can be purchased.

Something to think about......How you would enforce those T&Cs outside of Portugal ?
Never try to out-stubborn your guests.
