Is this a scam

OTA = Online Travel Agency, which means those sites that sell the booking and take the payment for you.

Is this a scam

Post by Frenchlady »

Anyone know if this is a scam. Just received this message from Airbnb supposedly:

Hi,
Unfortunately, you have forgot to sync your calendar with this email address. You need to do this urgent, otherwise you will not be able to use your account as usual.

Please go to the syncing process by clicking the following link:

www.airbnb.com/sync

Syncing your calendar ensures that guests get an accurate picture of your availability and helps prevent double bookings.

Thanks,
The Airbnb Team

When I clicked on the facebook and twitter link at the bottom it does not go to those sites.

Sounds very much like phishing to me.

But, I presume you copy/pasted the email, so can you look at the original email:

1. What is the full email address from whom it was sent? I'll bet its not a genuine airbnb address.

2. The link in your email. If you hover your mouse over that link, then look in the status bar at the foot of your browser, and it probably shows some weird looking web address.

If that's not a scam with grammar that bad, then they really need some staff training
Looks phishy to me, why would they email rather than through their much heralded closed messaging systems?

Coys comments caused me to re-read the email, in which I spotted this phrase:

"you have forgot to sync your calendar with this email address"

Never mind the poor grammar, the information is utter tosh.

Yes def a scam. Although in properties it did say Airbnb - it was followed with "fat cow". Ummmmm take that as an insult.

At least others will now be warned hopefully.

Thanks for your replies.
