I have a booking that was made many months ago for this week starting 18th May. Which, as it happens coincides with the FA Cup final at 5pm!!!!!!

Through the week I’ve had 4 phone calls, one from each guest asking if they can gain access to the cottage as early as 12 noon and as late as 1pm!!!???

Apparently it takes hours to carry a case in from the car and settle down before the football match starts!!!!

I'm assuming they want to watch the build up to the match too. They haven't said as much.

I've told them that i have no problem with the principle that they may be allowed access if the cottage is ready on the day. I've explained that it depends on how clean we find the place at 10am when the current guests leave etc etc. They are not interested.

Will it be ready for 12 / 1pm or not?

At the mo I’m inclined to not allow them in early even if it is ready.

What would you do? One more stern phone call from them and i may consider telling them what to do....

You don't say what your normal time of entry is? As the Ko is 5pm whats the issue other than they may want to get bladdered somewhere beforehand. Have they given you a reason why they all want early occupation> Id wind them up if they haven't, telling them that the tv has gone tits up and your having a new one delivered at about 7 pm on sat evening, apologising for the delay between your normal arrival time and seven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Normal arrival time is 3pm.

They say that they want to be in at 12noon preferably because it'll take them a few hours to get the cases in and settle down before the match starts.

How long does it take to carry in a few cases and settle in to watch a match that starts at 5PM

Very much like the idea that the TV's buggered!!!!

You could have some real fun with this one!

I have a friend who does changeovers and when the clients turn up early and ask if they can have access she pauses, thinks and then says "Yes, of course. I haven't cleaned the toilet or shower yet and the fridge and oven are pretty grubby and the beds are still to do but if you're happy ………….." The clients soon scuttle off.

You might also suggest your guests can settle in and you will carry on cleaning around them: loud hoovering around the TV, dusting the screen etc. should do it.

I got to the bottom of this one, i was a little concerned that the cottage could of been booked for a party apposed to a holiday.

This happened last year, guests stressed that they wanted in early and were cagey about why. A neighbour phoned saying that dozens of people were entering the cottage and their was excessive noise. Soon had them out on the street.

Anyway i had nothing to worry about, two mature couples, family and one couple were avid Man City supporters and the other Watford etc etc and they just wanted to get in and watch the build up before the match and socialise as the couples live many miles apart and don't get to see each other as much as they'd like too anymore.

I did have a little fun with them which was joyfully received
