QR code for self-catering holiday rental property

Hello all, I'd like to call on the hive mind if I may.

I operate a self-catering holiday rental property. My manager recently questioned whether I need a QR code for guests to check in with the NHS covid-19 app.

I've had a look on gov.uk and the NHS's app support page (https://faq.covid19.nhs.uk/article/KA-01183/) and it seems I don't need to do this, since I neither operate an hotel, nor do I offer hospitality services. However, the guidance does not seem to be exhaustive and, in conducting due diligence, I thought I should seek clarity.

I would prefer not to use one if I am not required to, because a large part of the appeal of self-catering holidays is the guest's independence – essentially, they are in a home away from home. In any case, the agencies I use retain all guests' contact details in compliance with the GDPR.

I'd be mighty grateful if anyone can lend any insight into the matter.

Yes, I’m afraid you do need to display a QR code. The above thread in the forum will tell you more, but you can face a fine if you don’t display it.
Guests don’t have to use it, but you must display it.

Ah right, thank you both.

You were a lot quicker to give me an answer than my MP!

Maybe your MP found the answer and thought “that can’t be right, it makes no sense” and is still looking... ;-)
