For those who are lucky enough to have guests it may be best to advise them that apparently, as of today, smoking is prohibited in the street and on bar/restaurant terraces unless you are very sure that you are sufficiently distanced from other people. In the same edict all night-life seems to be banned too.
The no-smoking rule has been in effect in Galicia for a week or so and now the central government has imposed it nation-wide, albeit with resistance from some regions.

Not true.
You forgot the date of implantation in the Canary Islands.

Thank you Costa Brava. Since the virus arrived, I have found your posts entertaining, thought provoking and informative (not necessarily in that order). Really useful!

Thank you Zebedee.
CSE I bow once again to your superior knowledge but "not true" sounds a bit like a Trump tweet. Galicia was first on Mainland Spain but the Canaries did go first. I think the important thing is that it now seems to apply to all of Spain. Personally I think smoking on the street should be banned regardless of distance. People drop the cigarette ends which must be contaminated if the person is Covid-positive. It's also important for owners not currently in Spain to be able to pass on these changes to their guests. It can avoid the unpleasantness of guests getting fined by the police.

Simple then. Get your facts right and you will not be reading short replies.

Bars and restaurants must close at 01:00 with no admittance after midnight. Tables restricted to a maximum of 10 people.

I think that's summer over Marks. They had to open up for a few weeks or the populace would have been in revolt. But everybody is now desperate to get the kids back to school. That's not till September but the summer wind-down has started.

A study group from the Universitat Politecnic de Barcelona have come up with some logical conclusions about "veu alta". (Speaking loudly). According to them the government has encouraged larger groups to meet outside rather than inside but that it could be based on a false premise. It seems the original study was done in Japan where it's normal to speak outside at the same volume as if you're in a library. As we all know Spanish people are much louder and in fairness, aren't all Europeans loud and cackley on holiday?
The study group claim that this loud voice results in an aerosol of Covid bugs. They cite the recent outbreak among fruit-pickers in Lleida as an example.
Maybe they should be encouraging people to smoke to stop them talking!!!!

Update on the facts. The national government proclaimed the ban but found niggly problems in converting it into law. So they passed it out to the autonomous regions. It comes into effect in Catalunya today. So it isn't a universal Spanish law.
