Opinions Please

Post by Foxandsot »

Hello

I have gone as far as I can with our website. What do you think? It looks a bit bland to me but if I add any more photos I'm worried it will ground to a halt!

Fresh eyes needed to give me some ideas.

Thanks

M

Hi Tatiana...

The photos...could you have a better view of the pool rather than a corner and the grass...upstairs patio doors ought to be open and maybe a table & chairs if theres room..

The baby /toddler pack for £10...seems a bit strange[ Theres an awful lot there admittedly but I think Id either offer it or not[without the £10] once its bought...its bought and wont take much to replace if nee be...But getting £10 extra seems a bit of a faff...and whats £10 on top of your rental price...
Just my view of course...

Hi

the photos are slow because they are .............. huge !

The one on the first page is nearly 1mb. You can reduce this to under 100kb without losing too much definition using the free imaging software at : http://www.irfanview.com .

They are also distorted compared to the original pics.

So here is your lighthouse pic (originally 900+ kb) optimised :

Image

Exact copy from website, but reduced definition = 85kb

Image

Image from website, returned to original scale, and optimised down to 21kb

Do you really lose much definition between the current web image and the pic above despite reducing resolution by 97% ?

I guess English isn't your first language :-)

I would get it translated into English, some of the text doesn't read 'right'

The Calender needs to be aligned to the left.

As MPPRF said, the images are too big.

Hope this helps

The text is fine, but could you use 'buttons' for the page links menu to make it look a little less bland?

Plain text is said to be better for SEO.

However, it would be better to change to a darker colour ( red ? ) as the mouse passes over menu links.

I've made some changes to the photos, hopefully they are smaller now!!

Unfortunately, the package that I am using for my website is quite limiting in what I can do, maybe I need to start from scratch or better still get the professionals in to do it!!

Didn't think the text was that bad!! Maybe I should also take an A Level in English while I'm at it!!

Thanks for your comments

I don't think there is anything wrong with the text, it seems fine to me. Not sure why they think your first language isn't English.

I spend a fair amount of my time 'translating' web sites & Press Releases written in (mainly Russian) English into 'English English, so can recognise something not written by a native English speaker.

From the information page

'Larnaca Airport is approximately 10 to 15 minutes drive'

'details of which we hold in the guest handbook in the villa.'

While correct, both sentences don't 'read right'

Yes, but it is a bit of an 'assumption' isn't it?

True.

It's a bit of a bug bear of mine, I'm sure you have seen menus that are almost English rahoi.com/2006/03/may-i-take-your-order.php for example.

I've never understood why proprietors doesn't ask a native speaking customer to do a proper translation.

It doesn't matter where the establishment is or which language they have attempted to translate into, they all seem to be not quite right.

Erm...I'm English! Now I'm paranoid to write anything just in case it's not 'right', or should that be correct!

I'm afraid your lighthouse still looks short & fat from here !

http://www.villatatiana.com/page5.htm

And it is slow because it is now 1.6mb. Part of the problem is using a bmp file format. This image is only 21kb (pretty well instant loading with adsl, and fast with dial up) :

You can email the images to me, and I will resize them.

In that case I am most terribly sorry.

I think you are trying to be a little to formal, write it as you would say it (assuming you're not from Essex*)
