We use brome with a chemical dispenser & we are happy with it. I fill the dispenser up around once a week & shock the pool once a month brome is more expensive but is surposed to work better at higher temps than chlorine, no algae problems & the smell isnt so strong. I am asthmatic but its never triggered an attack.

I've been in a chlorine-free pool once at my boss's house. I believe it used an ionization-type treatment but I really liked it. There was no chemical smell and it didn't dry out and irritate my skin. I also have asthma and some pool chlorine can make me wheeze.
