My odds and ends box

She would probably have known if she had an allergy or not then, but you can never tell, as most young people are fit and healthy and don't take antibiotics very much. I hope recently-qualified docs are more knowledgeable about medicines now than when I was a newly-qualified pharmacist. They knew very little when they left medical school about prescribing.

We keep a big French industrial level first aid kit at the chalet since we happen to have one (boring story!) and I always check it's there. It never seems to move. I checked it today and it was in a huge mess - someone's clearly found it useful. I'll restock it, but note to the cleaners next time to check it I think!! I assumed people would say if they'd used that much stuff, but no.

It doesn't contain medicines, just wipes, gloves, bandages etc. Are you really not supposed to provide plasters?

Certainly the HSE first aid kits don't include plasters, possibly, again, in case of allergy, but I don't see why you shouldn't provide them. I know Uk schools need to phone a parent before they can apply a plaster to a wound.

At the Nursery where I work..
The new Rules said that We had to take out all plasters in case there was an allergic reaction to them.....Also Witch hazel..which we always had before that
..But we had to have about 5 'sling bandages' so if 5 kiddies hurt their arms at once we could bandage em all up but couldnt give any one of them a plaster if they cut themselves.....
We arent even allowed to have an accident book any more..we have to write an accident report and post it to the people overseeing the group because if the accident book fell in the wrong hands names in there would breach their confidentiality...
Coat pegs also had to be a certain distance apart as well Im not sure why but guess someone has calculated how far a germ can jump
Having said that I leave plasters in the house in Spain[I like to live dangerously  ]

Its all Elfin Safety
[borrowed from someone on here but Im not sure from whom..I think Stu or Andy]

Lunacy!

Isn't that more dangerous though? So 1000 kids have to go without a plaster until someone fills in form 32453456345 in triplicate, because 1 kid MIGHT get a rash, which the parents should have informed the school about anyway?

Aunestly.

I think I'm starting the cheerful slide into middle-aged ranting and waving my walking stick about.

I'm gonna live on the edge and leave some plasters I think. Next week: me and Big Sis eat last weeks yoghurts for kicks.

I leave plasters, antiseptic lotion, antiseptic cream and sealed lint bandages. If guests want to use it they are welcome to it...if they don't then it's entirely up to them.
All I know is if I or a member of my family had a cut finger etc.. etc.. on holiday and I forgot to bring a first aid kit, then a first aid kit with plasters and antiseptic treatment on hand at the property would be just as welcome as a 'Welcome Pack' ....and the last thing on my mind would be whether the plasters would cause an allergic reaction!
(Waving my walking stick about too Firebug!  )

Well, I tell 'em where the pharmacy is - does that count?

I mean, I know lots of our guests could really benefit from a second brain cell to bang into the one they've got - but don't most people take a few basic medical thingys with them? Not a lot, just Ibuprofen, plasters, Collis Brownes, anti-histamine, antiseptic cream, plus any specialist stuff they need, you know simple things like that? We do, we always have.

Are we their hosts or their nursemaids? (I told you about the couple with the 7-month old kid who didn't bring any nappies with them - maybe I'm just too optimistic.)

I'm getting too old for this game, I think!

The biggest reason for my odds and ends box is totally selfish, we not too far from shops but being 20 steps or so from the cottages I am nearer and I was getting constantly interupted one month with requests for calpol, santitary towels, plasters, nail scissors....and yes condoms(couldn't believe it almost died of embarassment  ) so I put everything I could absolutely think of in a big box did a no liability disclaimer on the front and since then no more interruptions :D Cost me £40 or so with another £15 for the boxes and I ask guests to replace what they use, so far they have.
I find television very educational. Every time someone switches it on I go into another room and read a good book.

Unfortunately I don't think that even an odds and ends box would stop people knocking on my door - but I don't mind, it is part of the job now - it is also easier and cheaper than providing 3 sets of O & E boxes - not to mention the checking of them each week!

Do I really need to answer that one Mols!
I am (somehow :? ) regarded as the local resort Rep!! Believe me I've had calls for all sorts of 'minor' queries...and many a times acted as a PA re. requests to arrange for taxi pick-ups from the villa...(as LV says...all part of the job! )

The only time I look forward to answering our 'villa mobile' is during Nov- Feb, when I know it's an enquiry for a booking....not a call to find out where the nearest 24 hour pharmacy is!

LV...I just give my first aid box a cursory once over....so far only the box of plasters has been used....I always keep a few (new) boxes of spare plasters to replenish (cheap as chips at only 89 cents from the local supermarket).

Actually, you know, I've just thought - I've got a BOY'S odds and ends box!

I leave my guests a fully-functional tool-box, with about 8 different screwdrivers, two pairs of pliers, stanley knife, insulating tape, hacksaw, hammer, mallet, tape-measure etc (along with plug-converters and chargers and such). I don't give them access to my Bosch power-driver, but hey, you know, it's enough to get them through a crisis, init?

Won't score much with the girlz I guess, but surely "dix points" from the boys? Huh?
