Post by Topcat »

Hi everybody. Now that I've got some interior pictures I'd be glad of your comments on the restyled site.

Thanks,

TC

The photos and colours work well for me - I think you have managed to give a real feel of the place. I like the light box effect but it isn't on every page. well done a good revamp for me :)

TC , the pictures are outstanding. Very professional

It may be because I am on Vista and haven't got used to it but the picture navigation was irritating. I could see they were "1 of 4" etc. but it wasn't obvious how to get to the next one without clicking "Back" and selecting the next one ...... until I saw I could "Next" or "Prev" on the hidden buttons at the top of the image.

Would that stop me browsing your site ?. I doubt it as the images are so great. Looks a fantastic spot.

Regards

Ian

I like it, especially the masthead/logo - very nice and fresh.

Been seeing your photos come up in my Flickr feed on my Netvibes start page ;-)

Also, you've now been socially bookmarked by 3 people ;-)

Thanks people. I've been away for the weekend so didn't see the comments until now.

I'm gratified that you like it but just wondered - what do you think to the bedroom photos? I thought they made the bedrooms look a bit monastic, and I expected some criticism of them. We're going out again on the 2nd October and I have a suitcase full of cushions and other odds and ends to dress it up a bit and retake those pix.

Garri, I don't suppose it's possible to tell who's socially bookmarked me, is it. How do you know?

Enid, the 'light box effct' is on every page for the thumbnails, but some of the on-page pix are old photos that just got scanned in. They're gradually being replaced so that everything will enlarge.

Ros, yes, a lot of the pix are new.

Ian, I know what you mean. It caught me out to begin with, but we tried lots of different programmes and I thought that on the whole that one looked the best. If anyone wants to use it I can supply the code.

Hi TC,

I like your site, it looks clean and fresh and new. The colours all complement each other.

I do agree that the bedroom pic looks a bit 'empty' perhaps softer lighting and a couple of contemporary prints above the beds.

Lovely place that I wouldn't hesitate to book. It looks like it has an 'owner who cares'

had another look as you asked us to and I agree with Ruth - some cushions and a picture on the w all would give warmth to the bedrooms -I think the sitting room shot needs a picture on the wall too :)

TC I don't think the bedroom photos "need" anything. They are tightly framed and are "arty" rather than a "record" "this is the bedroom" shot. The bedroom style fits in with the feel o the site and the apartment

The twin bed shot is a bit grainy and soft and lets the other down.

I had another go at navigating the pics and fond it very frustrating with the hidden tabs , different sized and positioned images and when "Next" didn't light up having to check if there was still a "Prev" to confirm the page hadn't just locked.

Still looks great though :-)

Actually there are pictures on the wall, they're just not in the shots! I do need one more in the sitting room though, behind the settee.

Ian I don't really know how to change the navigation on the enlargements. It is a bit annoying I know.

Anyway, next time we go out (Oct) I shall take some more shots (with cushions) and see if they look better. I might try including the curtains next time. I'll post them on here first for you to have a look at.

Only at the moment I'm having trouble uploading photos. There's nothing wrong with my camera or my PC, so it must be the connector thingy. I'll take it into Jessops or somewhere next week and see what they say. I've gone through the troubleshoot facility and nothing changed.

Thanks everybody

TC assuming you are connecting your camera to your PC with a USB cable you could always use a card-reader instead of connecting the camera direct (assuming it's not the USB port on the PC that's at fault !)

The above is my "default" way of getting pics onto the PC

Sorry to sound stupid, but I can't work out how to do that. I do have a card reader, but the picture card from my camera is too big for one slot and too small for the other!.

So how would I go about it?

Errr .... buy a different card reader

Some older readers took SD , CF and various others. Newer ones added in Memory stick and various other formats. Some of the smaller formats can be used with an adapter (the small SD type and small memory stick type). Card readers tend to be pretty cheap (if you can't borrow one !)

What type of card does your camera take ?.

IT says Olympus xD-Picture Card, and my card reader says on one slot CF/MD and on the other one SM/SD/MMC/MS

Perhaps some of that makes sense to you!
