TC the CD cards are used by Fuji and Olympus cameras and aren't compatible with the slots in your card-reader.

I don't know whether you can get an adaptor (I haven't found one) so the easiest way is to buy a Xd reader. For example

Thanks Ian. I'll have to look into it. It might be the best thing, though I do need to check somehow which part of the set up isn't working properly first. I'm pretty sure it's the USB device as the message on my PC is that it doesn't recognise it (and obviously it used to), and recently I had to take it out for something else and may have corrupted it.

tc, is there USB icon in the bottom corner of your taskbar? You may not be disconnected properly from the previous thin you had plugged in. Right-click it, then select disconnect safely (something like that anyway). Now try your camera again. Do you only have one USB port?

Some computer expert may be along with the answer but if I was fiddling I would;
  • Change the cable if you have a spare with the same ends
Make sure you re-boot the PC (I'm sure you have)
Take the batteries out of the camera , wait a while and put fully charged batteries back in
Make sure the Camera is powered up when trying to access them from the PC and the camera is in "play" mode
If still no joy
  • Go into "My Computer" and look for the "removable drives".
Right-click and look for something "useful". try to "Eject" etc.
    Re-boot everything and try again
If you have a spare card or don't need what is on your current card, re-format it in the camera and try again.

Good luck !

Have tried all suggestions, but to no avail!

Thanks anyway. I need to get a new USB connector I think.

For those who tried to help I can now confirm I have it sorted. I've discovered that I only have two ports that actually work, and so I have to pull out the printer or the broadband connection and put the camera connection in there.

I used to have 4 working ports (Ha! I sound like the shipping industry!) and don't know why two have gone on strike, so to speak, but at least I'm at least partially operational again. Obviously the two remaining ports are using non-unionised labour, or else they've negotiated a separate settlement!

Thanks anyway.

USB holes can be a bit like that!!

have you checked that they're not supposed to be connected internally off another one? This happened to me once... flying lead was hanging loose :o

I had three USB ports on the front of my PC, two of which refused to work. When I opened up the PC to replace the hard drive, I noticed they hadn't been connected.

Well no, I haven't checked, because I don't have the confidence to start opening up electronic stuff. But they all used to work, so they must have been connected at some time, and not that long ago either.

I normally leave the camera USB connector in the port, so that I don't have to keep pulling out the tower to reconnect it. So it was strange that it suddenly stopped working.

Ah ... I missed that obvious check ... "was the USB port working with something else"
