HTML validator

Does anyone use this and is it any use? Frightened me to death but not sure how important it is!

I use an html validator on my site mainly to ensure that search engines don't have problems with the code. Since search engines are just processors that feed code into a parser if your code is screwy the search engine might not be able to process your page. Your page might still look OK but you may not be getting the most out of it. Some people are purists who believe the code should confirm to the standards just because but I only believe in it if I can discern a purpose.

Anyways, the site validator I use is from W3.org who are pretty much the "governing" body of HTML and come up with the standards.

Here is the link: http://validator.w3.org/

Once your site is validated you can put up a nifty logo or just be happy knowing you are a code master . :mrgreen:

Hi Meishka,

Always good to check your code, if only for the reason mentioned by rich_sipe.

Nothing too major wrong with yours either, to fix just do the following .....

1 - at the top of your code change

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
to

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http&#58;//www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
2 - add 'alt' text to all your images, for example change

Code: Select all

<img src="change6.jpg" width="974" height="174">
to

Code: Select all

<img src="change6.jpg" width="974" height="174" alt="put a description of the picture here">
Hope this helps :)

sorry .... forgot about that :oops:

Best to use css to set the margin borders .... and i've removed the table 'height' setting of '703', not essential.

Heres the full code to copy over ......

Code: Select all

Just check out the code posted below. The DOCTYPE is the first line of code up there. Just copy and paste that line to the top of your code also and you WILL hava a DOCTYPE :)

Just a hint for Firefox users.
http://users.skynet.be/mgueury/mozilla/
This is an extension to the Firefox browser that has helped me a lot.
I now have very clean code - and it stays that way
