Classified ad newspapers

Post by Darren »

I know alot of them are regional based but I used a company called adtrader which distributes all over the UK, brought a good response.

Has anyone had any luck in advertising in free classified ad newspapers? If so, which ones?

Cheers,

Darren :)

Hi Darren,

How much did it cost, and what did you get for your money?

I assume you were advertising WWHH though, rather than an individual property, which might make quite a bit of difference to the response. Am I right?

cheers, Jim

Question - is Darren not allowed to advertise his site due to forum rules?

What would you attempt to do if you knew you would not fail?

Sorry for the unnecessary abbreviation! Darren runs a paid listing site called Worldwide Holiday Homes, a forum similar to this one and a Travel Rant blog.

In other words I can imagine that an advert in a classified ad paper for a listing site - "Choose from over 1000 holiday homes in 26 countries" or whatever - might be a lot more effective than a similar sized one for a single property or small group of properties, like wot we got.

cheers, Jim

That's right. Rental listing site owners are allowed to post as long as they are contributing to our understanding of the holiday rentals business, but they can't promote their own sites.

I can't answer anything apart from Jim's question about adtrader magazine; the price depends whereabouts in the UK you advertise, ie.. which region, also what style of classified ad you place, i.e. all text, or text with border etc.

An example though it cost me £28 for 4 issues for an classified ad with border.

That sounds like an excellent deal when you compare it to normal local papers, which usually seem to charge £15-£20 just for a very basic classified ad in a single issue.
