Time to check your PR again.

After a few months of work, google is now updating page ranks.

I know they are not as important as in the past and play a minor role in deciding position on the search engines - but a good page PR can't do any harm ?

Thanks for that info, but please tell me, as I am not clear on page ranking. Is it acending or decending numbers that are good? In other words. what number is one looking to be?

Thanks

Chianti

Hi

It goes 0 - 10.

http://www.yahoo.com = 9
http://www.microsoft.com = 9
http://www.google.com = 10

Aim for 10, but actually 4 and above is pretty good.

I just noticed this morning that we're back up to 3 again, having been demoted to a 2 for the past few months.

Google seem to pigeon-hole sites into general bands and then bump the whole pigeon-hole up or down. ie. Websites for most of the properties like ours around here have recently been ranked at 2. When our site went back up to 3 this morning, I had a quick look at the ranking of list of "rivals" - surprise surprise, most of them had also regained a PR point !

I keep half an eye on our PR but I don't loose any sleep over it !

Hi Guys

I'm a newbie on this forum. I own a couple of vacation homes over in sunny Florida and have built websites for these (and a few other things). This PageRank discussion made me smile because it sounds very familiar.

It's very easy to get obsessed with checking your PR for changes. I used to. The problem is it can take months for any changes to happen. So the best thing to do is to not check it for a while. If you can manage a month then well done!

PR does still seem to be important to your Google position but its not everything. I'd recommend spending your new spare time building links and finding other sources for your website traffic!

Dr. Richard

Hi Brooke

You're welcome, and thanks for the kind words. Now I just need to work out how to put a link in my signature!

Hello,

I am also a newbie here.
I think the Page Rank is a formula of how popular or important a site is.
It works exponentially, the formula being something like:

One link from a site Page Rank N has the same power as 10 links from a site Page Rank N-1

Expanding:

1 link from a site PR 9 =
10 links from a site PR 8
100 links from a site PR 7
1000 links from a site PR 6
10000 links from a site PR 5
100000 links from a site PR 4
1000000 links from a site PR 3
10000000 links from a site PR 2
100000000 links from a site PR 1
1000000000 links from a site PR 0

In short, do something spectacular with your property, so it gets mentioned on the BBC News front page.

Hi Henry

You're right. PageRank is exponential, so it's harder to get the higher numbers. There are also far less sites with these higher numbers. So what's your plan for getting on the front page of the BBC web site?

Wink

This would get you a flood of traffic though. There are other sites that you can work in where you can get some very good Page Rank...

Dr. Richard

PS. Thanks - I worked out the BBCode for the sig link...

Stage a mock UFO landing. Please don't tell anyone.

Great! It needs to be relevant though. Maybe "The aliens landed and chose to stay in my vacation rental"...

It might not be so mega -important these days, but when you haven't got a pagerank at all, it's importance seems all the greater.

When I last checked our site a few months ago we didn't have one at all, but having just checked again, I can now state that we have finally been bestowed the honour Very Happy Very Happy

PR 2

I wonder how long it'll last Confused

It's nice when you get some PageRank!!

Google seems to mess about with PageRank all the time so don't panic if it changes one day and then changes back the next. Unfortunately it's a continuous battle to retain your PR because there are more and more sites coming online all the time.

The best thing to do is to keep building your incoming links. This is the best way to retain your PR.
