INSURANCE

Hi

Can anyone recommend an insurance company for my Spanish apartment? I would appreciate your feedback. There is so much to do when you are buying an apartment my head is starting to spin.....or maybe thats the Cava.

Hi Sarah,

I use an insurance company called Schofields Ltd for my holiday cottage in Italy. They specialise in holiday home cover for homes in Italy, Spain, France etc. They were not the cheapest company but they seemed to have the most comprehensive cover. I have not had to make a cliam with them (knock wood) so I can't say how good they are when you actually need them.

Have a look at their website http://www.schofields.ltd.uk/

Couple of questions:

1. Has anyone used and/or evalutated either Intasure or Schofields?
http://www.schofields.ltd.uk/
http://www.holiday-rentals.com/intasure

2. Can anyone recommend other companies providing insurance for holiday homes?

3. Has anyone filed a claim, large or small?

They are all so nice at the start... but I'm more interested in how efficient and friendly they are when you have a claim to file.

Any/all input and comments welcomed. Thanks much!

I'm with Schofields - they seemed to cover everything I wanted without having silly clauses about insurance lapsing if the place was unoccupied for more than 2 weeks at at time (I ask you, is any holiday home occupied all year round...other than those of you who live on site.).

And the insurance was specifically for holiday homes.

But haven't had to test them out yet by making a claim... would be interested to see how their insurance holds up when that happens.

I'm in spain too.

Were in Tenerife and use Intasure for our contents cover. they provide cover for short holiday lets which includes 2 MILLION 3rd party liability cover. Cost £92/year for £8000 cover with £50 excess.

Finally got around to trying to request a quote from Schofields but hit this:

"We regret that only Residents of the UK and other parts of the British Isles are eligible."

Oh, well. Looks like Inatel for us.

Thanks much for all the feedback.

We used a company suggested by our agents. Not great as everthing in Spanish. We're moving to a comapany suggested by our bank (Solbank) . All documents in English and cheaper the original csupplier (Catalana Occidente).
Our dilemma is wishing we could spend as much time in our flat as the people who rent it but if we did we wouldn't be able to rent it!
