Links

Post by roxytoo »

I have been actively trying to get links to my website via web directories etc etc Is there any tool out there that I can use that tells me who is actually linking to me?

I believe you can use Google to do this, by putting in (if your website is blah.com) "link:blah.com" to the search box, adding the "www" if necessary.

Here's an example, using Lay My Hat.

Well, the link URL is very specific -- in my experience if the link is to blah.com/index.html and you search for link:blah.com, it won't show up. I know I'm linked by several sites and they don't all show up on a simple google link search because of that.

As I understand it, Google only shows sites that are linked to yours if they have a Page Rank of 4 or above - although this is not always the case. Nobody knows for sure (apart from Google, of course), it is just that every link will NOT be shown, but don't worry Google will know about them.

Wantage, I believe, but I promise not to say another word about linking tools to save your embarrassment!

Shall we just say that I don´t think Brian May´s under any threat at the moment.

Meishka,

Try putting a space after the colon, so it is
link: www.spainrentalsite.com

That shows up 7 links. It does not show all the inbound links, as noted above.

To see more of your inbound links, do this search on Google:
www.spainrentalsite.com -http://www.spainrentalsite.com

This asks for all mentions on the web of "www.spainrentalsite.com", minus any that appear on your site. You would expect most of these to be active links.

Oh, that is so odd -- why should it matter whether there's a space or not?

But, it clearly does! I clearly still have a lot to learn about Google. Thanks, Paolo!

So the ones where I have painstakingly put into web directories etc, where are these does anybody know? I thought most of them had a PR ranking of 4 or more (I mean when I was putting them on thats what I was looking at)
