starting at the front (again !)

Please could you let me know your views on this attempt at updating our front page for our site,

none of the links and other pages have been updated yet, but we are a bit xxxxxsited now, and want to carry the same theme through, also any suggestions at better grammer (?)
We are thinking of adding a 'food at the ...', 'how to get here' and 'local activities' tab as well

It's a bit difficult to read the text with that background!
Some of the place names should begin with a capital letter. These include:
France
Magny Cours
Loire (the Loire, not la loire)
French
La Charite.

many thanks, its so hard to see when you have been looking for what seems like weeks, and also the grammatical differences in French to English.
I have struggled with the background and tried several different ones, I think I like an effect rather than plain colour, perhaps I should increase the font/font size ? or just find another?

I like the wallpaper visually but didn't I read somewhere that search engines don't like fancy backgrounds
.
Also not sure of the relevance of the shells (however pretty) in your part of the country...

you are of course right, and I should stop trying to 'like' for myself the colours, its like doing a house renovation for re-sale as opposed to living there yourself.
I have tried a 2 tone gold/yellow theme in html colours,
would it look better all gold ?

Hi Pete
I quite like the two colours but the way it is laid out it the copy in the two columns looks rather cramped and the contrast makes it look rather busy. What about using the dark shade just above the line and where it goes to two columns just use the light all the way across - with a different type face for the links on the left (which might be better moved a bit further away)?

moved it and made the tabs bold, any darker on the shade makes the text difficult to read again.
I chose gold because I like enids site, but my old page was blue because I felt that 'france' is blue, do colours do countries or should I give up now ?
