Just posted on the same subject in The Cafe - hopeless - and on the very day we have started to be inundated with enquiries!!
I have contacted google but don't expect much action if it is a general problem. Can't even get into settings to redirect mail to another account.

At least they replied - which is more than they did to me - and it has gone AGAIN 
I assume that this small subset consists mainly of LMH users then?

We're aware of a problem with Gmail affecting a number of users. This problem occurred at approximately 1.30AM Pacific Time. We're working hard to resolve this problem and will post updates as we have them. We apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused.

glad to hear i wasn't the only one!! I thought my browser had gone on the blink.
