Craiglist fraud ?

Post by Fil »

I have just received an enquiry via VRBO with the following text.

"For your information: This apartment is used as a fraud to collect money from people on the website of "craigslist""

The email address has no connection with the name provided and I could not find any reference to the apartment on Craiglist.

Does anyone has a clue of what this means. Is this site being used for frauds ? If so, why shoul anyone bother to tell me ? Should I answer back ?

Fil, The problem is that there are so many CL's you need to find out which one.

Have a look at the London one http://london.craigslist.co.uk/
On the right hand side you can how many others there are

I think you should go back the person who emailed you from VRBO and ask them which one they found you on and contact the relevant admin to get the ad pulled.

I answered the enquiry and got back several spam mails.

So beware of similar situations. They are just harvesting email addresses.

I will report to VRBO.

That seems like an awful amount of effort to get an email address for a couple bits of spam, do you not think the spam is just coincidence?

Paul,

I received 5 emails back and assumed they were spam. After reading your post I opened them and realized they were from someone who answered to an add in Craiglist.com from someone who prentended to be the owner of my apartment. All description was there.

The "owner" called himself "Sam Peter" and was a "Reverend". A clumsy fraud tentative that I will try to report.

What a coincidence............Not!! Sam Peter is a famous Nigerian Boxer, Better know as The Nigerian Nightmare.

Maybe you should reply to the ad as the real Nigerian Nightmare, That might shake him up a bit!
