Yes as foreign residents registered for micro BIC (since 1998) we used to pay flat rate 20% tax on 29% of Gross income, so basically about 6%. Very generous we thought ! A few years ago they changed the law so that foreign residents have to pay CSG+CRDS which pretty much doubles the tax bill. There'...

Yes it would appear that by lobbying hard, Gites de France managed to get a last minute reprieve for beleaguered rural gite owners and the discount is going to increase from 71% to 87% so hooray for some good news at last ! I suspect though that there may well be a modification in this years tax ret...

Yes there are a lot of benefits to being French resident. I was resident for 6 years and the amount of tax social charges (including Healthcare and Pension) on rental income seem broadly similar now between residents and non-residents, so its maybe a good time to think about changing residency while...

Well, I suspect it's debatable  The change in law came in from January 2016. In an informal discussion with my tax office a couple of months ago, my conseiller told me that it would apply to 2016 income. But I know that some tax offices are applying it to 2015 income for tax bills received in ...

Yes, just took a look at my listing for the first time in ages. The geographical positions of properties around me seemed OK but I noticed that the link to my website has gone (or moved to somewhere so obscure that I couldn't find it - I'm sure it was there a few months ago) ! I'll probably enable t...

Now I've got used to it I find the new format quite slick and easy to use. The excessive security and editing of email addresses still bugs a bit but I guess E-Richard is right and it's best to be safe than sorry. I downloaded the app and that gives you easy access to the dashboard and a quicker way...

Re: Property references for Tax
Hi - We pay the usual property taxes ( over €7k) and I am trying to find out what I am actually paying for. On the tax demands there are references for varioss "mason" with an identifiant no 2010078378A. On the demand they list several of these numbers. Does anyone know if these can be ti...

Here's a link I put up on this site a year or two back. It may help a bit in that it explains the actual changes in the law relating to furnished lettings. http://www.cabinet-henderson.com/img/website_gite_and_furnished_letting_reform.pdf Gay correctly states that the notes to the Tax return do not ...

It doesn't surprise me at all that the TFE is a lot more than the Tax Professionelle used to be. There would be no reason for changing the tax if they weren't going to make money out of it ! France has a national debt of well over 1.5 Trillion Euros and the canny traders are already short selling th...

I suggest you read your tax guide again (the one which came with your declaration) because there is no mention of a different rate of abattement depending on whether you are classified or not. You get 71% abattement if you have a holiday let. You get 50% if you have a long term let. Full stop. If y...

Edited: forgot to say we did get the 70% abatement even though we are not classified!!!!!!!!! The fact the gîtes ruraux didn't have to get classified last year and wouldn't lose the 71% abbatement as a result of not getting classified was confirmed by our prefecture (though not in writing) but also...
