Please stay in your gite before renting it out!!

Just a few tips for anyone starting out... Please, please, please stay in it for a couple of days/nights and use all the facilities you offer. We spent a week in a fabulous farmhouse property in the mountains as we wanted a ski/snowboarding holiday, the property advertised for 6 people and there wer...

Well, I'm really pleased that the huge farmhouse we have to clean has a dishwasher! When I phone guests to arrange collecting the keys/waving them goodbye etc I always ask that they leave their breakfast things in the dw but not switch it on. First job on changeover day is putting everything in that...

I left my newly loaded nano ipod at a B&B apartment we stayed at in Barcelona. Our super host returned very quickly... but complained about my taste in music  My friend who has a couple of gites in France, found a disgusting pair of underpants that a teenage guest had stuffed to the back of...

LOL la vache....I am soo fit (and going grey rapidly) already with all this rental lark. The place is fully booked this summer but apart from one two-week booking all the rest are single weeks, so you know what I'll be doing every Saturday to the end of September (and mid-week if anyone takes advant...

Electric floor scrubbers - recommendations please

Hi....picture the scene; a very large farmhouse with huge area of rustic (terracotta, rough surface), tiled floor to clean weekly  between guests. Normally I hoover right through, then mop right through, but it takes ages, so wondered if anyone could recommend an electric floor scrubber (I don...

We don't have blankets, just duvets and beautiful bedspreads so I'd be horrified to find they had been used outside  . We do, however, supply pool towels as most guests here fly/drive and won't be bringing any towels with them. The sunloungers have padded cushions that we usually renew as neces...

Wish I had asked whether the gite we (and 4 friends) rented in the Auvergne 15 years ago had a bathroom  We rented a "manor" (I use the term loosely!) house many years ago in Normandy. The essential question we forgot to ask was "is there an actual floor under the lino in the ba...

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. As they are paying the full price I'll make up all the beds and cover the beds in a couple of the bedrooms with the bedspreads. Just had a thought that maybe they have friends or family arriving for a few days (this has happened in the past) so I don't want to be...

How many beds to make up...?

...for two people who have booked a week in a large luxury house that sleeps 12? I always think it looks better if all the beds are made up (rather than leaving a pile of folded bedding on every bed), but there is the risk of all beds being used! What would you do? (All linen/laundry etc is included...

As we are near the Pyrénées and this house is large, we have several very large themed prints - retro posters of paintings and photographs (mainly 1930s-50s) of the Tour de France and also skiing in the mountains. They were all bought from art suppliers in Pau and I love them - they're just in large...
