It looks to me that a lot (most?) UK owners have dealt with this by ignoring it. I'm one of them.

I have some with the flame shaped bulb from IKEA. Guess you can use rechargeable batteries in them .. Thats a good idea. It would be easy to change the batteries at changeover.
