I know this posting is a few weeks old now, but I just had the same email - as it's January and I've got some free time I've gone with it. I'm not holding my breath, but the admin were quite good...

As La Vache has said above, the main benefit is the ferry discount. However, we too had this email last year & decided to go on the list of potential properties for journalists to pick from. We were duly "chosen", and had a chap and his family here last October - this was the result ; ...

Loads of good points already made - just another thought which may help in the future - would it be possible to batch cook and freeze some of your meals in the coming winter/spring? then some of the food prep/shopping could be reduced at least some of the days. Thinking things such as boeuf bourgino...

Watching with interest!
I too looked at Saga. Presumably there are forums etc aimed at this demographic, but I didn't find much of interest when I searched, though admitedly it was a couple of years ago now.

Yes agree. Also, to receive a polite email asking if they mind could also serve as a good memory-jogger as to what a fantastic time they had and maybe make them think about re-booking?

Quite pleased with this....

http://www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/regionalfeatures/Local-knowledge-makes-difference-want-roast-chestnuts/article-3579420-detail/article.html Wasn't sure how it would work out, but this reads OK do we think? It was a journalist sent to us by Brittany Ferries to write a review for his local paper and al...

How about a scandal/human interest/skeleton-in-the-closet/whatever follow up story in a few days?? Seriously, may be worth ringing the journalist at the paper for a chat, see what he can do?

I've got a few of those "storm lantern" type holders with tea lights in - inside and out. I kind of thought they'd be less risky somehow :?:
They don't often get lit, and I've had a few knocked off and smashed too...

We have all IKEA "basic" crockery & cutlery - plain white crockery which is so easy to replace, and we have metal IKEA bed frames & mattresses, which I really like & many people have commented on how comfy they are. I've also had some absolute bargain bedding sets over the year...

It does depend on their ages obviously - mine are 9 & almost 3, so the little one will copy his big brother a little bit, then I'll send them off when they get daft, and as there is quite an age difference the big one will entertain the little one for a while (with a bit of bribing) I've been wo...

I think I must be a bit mean! If I have a new couple in, I generally make up the upstairs double bedroom, and although I will run the hoover over the twin & the downstairs double and give a quick clean, I don't make up the beds. However, when the guests arrive I always say I'm more than happy to...

If its all brand new & your first guests have only been in a few days you're not going to have to worry too much about things like lightshades & skirting boards etc. 4 children is harsh though! Get them involved as others have said - mine love shaking duvets into duvet covers & hoovering...
