   Well, I suppose I might be a bit miffed to find anything from Tesco, but that's because I hate Tesco with a passion bordering on pathological. Wouldn't stop me using it though!
As for leaving a comment about it.........Sad, deeply sad. Still, if that was the only thing they could find to comment on - and they must have searched very hard - you must have everything spot on!

To be fair to Tesco, not sure how much that one can be blamed on them. It was down to Premier Foods.

Very true, A shop cannot be blamed for all the products it sells.
I miss Tesco!

Don't worry - Retail Week recently posted an article explaining that Tesco would increase turnover by 50% by 2014.

There'll be one near you shortly wherever you are in the world (where the shops used to be)

There's one near you in the UK now, wherever you go... I think they have something like a whopping 2500 stores in the UK now.

Indeed - they'll be building stores on all the land that used to be used by the farmers Tesco are driving out of business in impoverished rural areas. Still, with the farmers gone there won't be anyone left to manage the countryside so probably better to build Tesco stores on it than let it go to waste. Except that there won't be any community left to serve. Never mind, they are helping the Consumer in towns, which is all that matters, isn't it? Unless you're Waitrose or Booths, who actually have an interest in the livelihood of their suppliers, big and small. But they're not. They're Tesco, and their objective is to have total control over food production and selling in the UK. Bastards.

Waitrose in Durham closed after a short period, probably due to it's location and pressure from Tesco. When son was in Lancaster we used to always go to Booth's.
I hate Tesco too, but don't have much of a choice close to me

I'd kill for a Tesco's here. We have no choice at all and shopping in the supermarket is always an ordeal; empty shelves, tripping over boxes, lack of choice.

Any chance they'll invade Spain?

Grass on the other side is always greener, I guess! We have four Mercadonas within ten kms, all about 25% the size of an out of town Tesco, selling just food. Limited choice but they do pretty well everything I need, and when I go to UK I find myself completely bewildered in the big supermarkets. Too much choice and full of stuff I don't need when I go food shopping. I even find our nearest Carrefour (an hour away!) too big nowadays and that is nothing like the size of a big Tesco or Sainsbury!

However I think I am much better off than you Mouse, and if I had to choose between what you have (or rather don't have) and the big boys I would probably go for the latter.

There's a lot of opposition here in Kendal to Sainsbury's coming in. Tesco has been talked about for a number of years, but as yet it has failed to materialise.

But Sainsbury's want to build on Kendal's cricket ground (see the detail on this here).

We like our green spaces and I hope it doesn't happen. I don't see:

1) why we need yet another supermarket in the town (we already have an ASDA, a Morrisons, a Booths, an ALDI, an Iceland and a M&S)

or 2) why they can't build on a brownfield site if we really must have one

As one person put it, we need to eat less and exercise more, so why are we replacing a sports venue with a supermarket? Let's hope it doesn't go ahead...

It's the way of the world Greenbarn, sad but true.

For example, it's not just food producers that get hit by the big boys, we have in the past supplied Tescos through a third party for a lot of mega print jobs but when the third party went bankrupt we lost the work and being a small company was told no chance of getting on the preferred suppliers list.

Fast forward 2 years in to the recession and we were surprised to get a call to help out with a quick turn round job their suppliers had let them down on, we specialise in quick turn round problem jobs btw lol. We have now been asked to become accredited suppliers and are grateful for the opportunity because as we've found recently, the small businesses and individuals are the ones who constantly price compare to on line big boys and expect us to be able to price match in addition to giving the personal care and attention, not possible I'm afraid.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that we are ALL guilty of assisting the march of the corporates because we are ALL chasing the cheapest price.
Don't waste energy on things you can't change.

A fair question! I'd quite like to know for the benefit of our guests - all I've established so far is that ASDA deliver, and have done for a number of our guests. AFAIK the only way to find out about online deliveries from Bast - sorry, Tesco, is to sign up.

However, we do have a fantastic butchers in Sedbergh who will deliver for our guests - just the sort of place that Bast - sorry, Tesco - would like to put out of business.

As you say, can't see the need for another supermarket in Kendal (didn't know it ever stopped raining long enough for playing cricket.......). We don't go very often, but I think Booths in Kendal is superb, and giving over what amounts to half a floor for the sale of local artisan products is a shining example to others. Their scoffery on the same floor is pretty good, too! OH prefers the trip to Kirkby Lonsdale and uses Booths there - might also be something to do with Churchmouse Cheeses in the town of course.........
