Transformation of Ros into 'Guest'

Post by paolo »

A most humble apology to Ros and all users. In trying to sort out a problem she was having logging in, I somehow managed to delete her as a user. Consequently all her posts are now attributed to Guest. I have asked my technical guy if anything can be done to restore her to her rightful posts. I do hope so.

(And I didn't just do it because she was catching up with me and Alan).

She is back! That's why I was trying to sort it out for her. She couldn't log in. Maybe she could change her name to Guest?

Hmm... this must be possible... though it'd probably have to be done manually at the database level. Maybe you could have her re-create her user (or create it for her), and then manually assign her new user the same unique id as the old user? It seems like that ought to work... but then I've also never had a look at the way the database tables are laid out...

There may be another option, too... you could restore the database to an older, backed-up version.

We'd lose the posts we made since then, and any new users would have to be re-created, so maybe it's really only a last resort, but it's an option.

My tech guy says he will try hacking the database. Sounds violent but we need to get Ros out of there...

You say tomayto, I say tomahto, you say "hack", I say "manually edit the database."

Teehee!

Really, at first pass this could be as easy as changing one column in one table; the second pass, making sure all the cross-checks work, may be more tedious. :)

I must admit, Paolo, I don't envy you the sinking feeling you must have had when you realized what happened...

Oh no, are you telling me poor Rozzie is watching all this and cannot post, what are you trying to do to the poor woman, she'll need another holiday to recover  Then again, she'll enjoy the challenge of getting her posts up again

Hello Ros, if you're watching, we're thinking of you

Oh, you are gonna get smacked when she comes back!

Poor Ros.

She could always create a temporary user, just to post over the next couple of days...

Poor Ros, it must be the ultimate torture for her to be gagged, so to speak - not to mention lose the phenomenal number of posts she has made in less than a year!
I hope you manage to get her ID sorted out Paolo!!
