Lay My Hat recent outage

Post by paolo »

If you were wondering where Lay My Hat had disappeared to in the last few days, the first time it was because some idiot (me) had forgotten to renew the domain registration. Soon after I did so, the place where the site is hosted literally blew up - this is from the hosting company:
This evening at 4:55 in our H1 data center, electrical gear shorted, creating an explosion and fire that knocked down three walls surrounding our electrical equipment room Thankfully, no one was injured. In addition, no customer servers were damaged or lost.

We have just been allowed into the building to physically inspect the damage. Early indications are that the short was in a high-volume wire conduit. We were not allowed to activate our backup generator plan based on instructions from the fire department....
Apologies for the inconvenience.

Surely that's too much of a coincidence? I think dark forces are at work here and the two events have to be connected.

I think some sort of emergency website forum ought to be available for a crisis like this - Mrs MG hasn't known what to do with me slouching around the house, and we've been struggling for conversational crumbs. If you're stuck with your OH: did you know, for instance, half of China and Burma had been wiped out recently? You'll find they know all about it.

And my mole tells me that the MDs of some of our listing sites have been in a bad way, not getting their daily fix.....and reduced to sharpening the pins for their voodoo dolls....

So glad you're back. Have boring, drizzly weather out here in the Alps at the moment so with LMH down had nothing else to do but dullard DIY tasks and work emails - thank goodness you're back !

MG - you do make me laugh

As a postscript, the LMH server is currently being run from a generator, so there may be further brief outages as they restore everything back to normal. Don't panic, and thank goodness most of us are beyond child rearing age...
