Is this a scam - can anyone help

I received this email for a booking today. We have a B&B in France. Something just doesn't feel right but wanted someone else's opinion.

I am Certainly OK with your price 648 Euros for my stay.

I would like you to know that payment would be made to you through a certified french bankers draft cheque.

So please send me an email immediately you receive payment, then have it cashed instantly as soon as you recieve payment.

My Wife and I are traveling to to your location for our 20 Years Wedding Anniversary and I am sure you would provide us with a nice service when we arrive at your location in France.

I am sure you are a very trust worthy person.

I will like you to send me an email with your following Contact Payment Details , so that your name can be written on the french cheque and the payment can be sent out to your address immediately.

The check received € 4200 (instead of 620 €) comes from a company that seems to exist (check stolen or forged, I would for the second solution, I see the bank this afternoon) is to:
Cactus Productions Ltd., 222 avenue de la république 01630 ST-GENIS POUILLY
But the agency is at 06130 St Genis Pouilly (typo in the postal code) !!!!!!!
The check comes from the CIC Lyonnaise de Banque !!!!!

I called the number of French government cited above: 08 11 02 02 17. According to them, here come from Côte d'Ivoire

If someone can do something to stop them!

Scooter I think it is dodgy[75% scam methinks]
the 'trustworthy person' bit and I deffo wouldnt let them wait to sign the contract........

The last posting I did was from a French Chambre D'hote forum translated into English. It was a report on this person who had sent a cheque and overpaid and was traced back to Ivory Coast. If anyone gets an email from him I would reject immediately. Thanks everyone for your support. Ron

Would be really surprised if he did live in Eldon St cos I'm from Barnsley and it's in the middle of the town centre and it's all shops and the postcode is wrong- I'd trust your gut on this one

I wrote back to him and informed him that I had traced his information and that I was reporting him to all forums and the authorities. Heard nothing since.

This makes me realise just how useful Google maps would be in this sort of situation, because if you zoom in on 32 Eldon St, you can see that not only is it in the middle of the town centre - it is actually in the middle of a triangle on a main road junction, so unless he lives in a cardboard box (in which case you probably wouldn't want him anyway), that can't be his address...
