Hi Pete,

You may well be right, but in my experience and from other web geeks ive talked to the hyphen does matter.

Whether it matters less in the root URL than in actual pages of the site perhaps is questionable, but this is the joy of being in SEO!

I think this is ok for a small rental property actually. The images are optimised and of good size and the overall feel of the site is inviting. Perhaps the colours are a bit too defensive but this is nicely offset by the rich photos. Probably the next step is to do some onpage optimisation and begi...

Regarding the hyphen inbetween words this is actually good practice as google and other engines will treat the words as seperate entities...ie 'holiday' and 'home' So when someone searches for the highly competitive 'holiday home' they are more likely to rank than if their URL was 'holidayhome' whic...

Hi Goat, Regarding the pictures, they are most probably submitted at too low resolution by the owner - most seem to be fine to me - although it may also be your display. I think you will always have to pay commission to the service as they are doing a job for you - promotion of your property across ...

I didnt realise villarenters.com had been aquired by the daily mail group - thats certainly good news for the marketing clout of the operation.

Part of the reason we chose their offering was their details and photos of each property, really good.

You dont have to go for adsense ads, there are other PPC companies out there. We use MIVA and espotting which lets us create our own bespoke ads, rather than having to stick to what google provides and its little 'ads by google' message! If you can handle a little programming then you can achieve so...

from the ones i saw on the slideshow, they are all above 120k, which is too large really. Having said that as they are displaying the location in such lovely clarity you may want to keep them that way. I would apply jpeg compression at 70-90% depending on the amount of colour areas (more areas, high...

Goat, Absolutely no problem with adding javascript to your site, just consider the following points: - javascript is not read by the majority of search engines - javascript needs to be turned on in the users browser for it to function (vast majority have it turned on) - complex javascripts can slow ...

Yer we use statcounter, the initial log size is pretty limiting though. I find the fact that a lot of people seem to have 1280 by 1024 screen resolution suprising, and quite pleasing as we have a lot to fit in on TP! I sometimes find the refferal from search engines other than the main 3 doesnt show...

A word of warning about sitemaps - it is in a beta stage. There has been quite a bit of discussion about large sites losing up to 2/3 of their pages in the google index after submitting sitemaps. I cant say Ive had that problem, just make sure when you submit the .xml file, it is properly formatted....

You can take two pictures from exactly the same position, one exposed to the inside, one to the window, and then marry the two on your computer. I don't know about Paolo, I have done it myself many times in the past, but sorry to have to tell you Joanna, I've used photoshop :? But the good news is ...

Pete, It doesnt work like that. You need different IP's. Alexa would be a joke if it worked the way I think you are suggesting? One user hitting the site all day with one toolbar will not affect it - apart from being counted as 1 visitor - surely thats obvious? Is that what you mean? If you had seve...
