Abritel Taxe de Séjour
Abritel are not charging our guests enough - should be 1,50 per night whereas they (as are AirBnB) are charging only 1 pp pn but our neighbouring canton are charging even less - go figure! It is certainly not a percentage calculation anyhow!

I believe the immobiliers are talking it up and even if there are Brits wanting to buy they are likely to have to pay 20% more as the value of the £ has been demolished by the B word since 23rd June 2016. However, I have noticed a slight upward trend in the price of property here where I live in the...

Yes Jensen it isn't cheap to live in France with all the hidden taxes and social charges and it isn't easy to make a living either - no wonder people choose to be unemployed as it is hard to earn the living wage for artisans. Maybe Macron's government will make it more attractive to work for yoursel...

Thank you so much Blanche and Dusty! So I am not even going to bother going to get a SIRET. We have already had our tax bill for this year which I paid (early so I didn't forget) - it didn't say anything about social charges and it was really very little - I think the reason being is that we really ...

Gite Rental - SIRET & Social Charges?
Hello Dear Hatlayers! I was talking to someone on another forum who told me that everyone, absolutely everyone operating a gîte in France now needs to get a SIRET number to do it. In our household our main income is from my husband's pension and our gîte income (which is what I do but am not registe...

Making money from a gîte
Hi Erica - late in the day - sorry! We opened our little gîte apartment for 2 people at the end of July last year and we have achieved 50% occupancy and it looks like a profit of €12k in our first year (as in money left after paying for maintenance, insurance, food supplies, electricity etc.,). This...

Living in Splendid Isolation
Hello We live in the Cévennes (south of France) in splendid isolation. We can't see any other houses from our house and our nearest neighbours are 2 kms away. We don't feel at all isolated as the community is very friendly and supportive and the locals make an effort to include us in village events ...

Homelidays charges
I have had two bookings from Abritel (Homelidays group) who should have paid their charges but didn't pay - I felt it wasn't up to me to force them to pay a charge I disagree with. Can Abritel make me pay the charges if my guests don't pay? I can't see anything about this in their bumpf but somewher...

We only opened our gite at the end of July and we had approximately 50% bookings. We put together our website, signed up with Abritel and also with AirBnB (not expecting much from the latter) - we charge more with AirBnB to cover shorter stays. In spite of this most of our business has come from Air...

Rules and Courses Needed for Table d'Hôtes
Hello everyone This is my first posting on your website. We have a house in the Cévennes, southern France and I started doing chambres d'hôtes last summer - not many nights, just when we had requests for the gîte when it was already full. People wanted to be able to eat an evening meal but I wasn't ...
