Re-pricing to allow for spiraling energy costs

My head is spinning. Moreso than normal. We knew that all hosts will need to consider raising prices fairly dramatically to account for the increased energy costs. We've done nothing about it yet because we have been on the new tariffs for just a few months while the need for heating has been low. T...

Text enquiry response to Facebook ad

This is a new one to me, so I thought I'd mention it: I get a text on my phone: Hi, Is your ad on Facebook still available? https://fb-ads-9291112.000webhostapp.com/id/manager/ and, as you'd expect, it leads to a fake FB login page. I've changed one digit in the URL to ensure that it doesn't work. W...

Update: They have fixed it. Linked calendars are now synced every 90 minutes, regardless of what domain the calendar is in!

I have the answer from them and it's not a good one: We recently made some changes to our calendar sync functionality, and we only work with a select list of calendar providers. I will submit your request to the relevant team but cannot promise that it will be added. You currently can work with the ...

holidayLettings / TripAdvisor calendar import bug

TripAdvisor is failing to pick up the linked calendar for both of our listings. It has even lost the linked calendar settings and fails to store them when we re-enter them.

I have no idea how long this problem has existed. I've contacted their support today.

Anyone else got this problem?

The £442 seems unnecessarily harsh but, remember, this is Homeaway who operate a pure "Wild West" business. It doesn't surprise me. The security weakness that you've exposed does look shocking. So, I can phone them about my competitor's listing, pretending to be the new owner... and Bang: ...

Apparently, they have 10,000 followers on Linkedin. Why doesn't that surprise me?

I do remember a problem like that from long ago on TripAdvisor. Their system didn't understand geography too well. We worked around it, in the end, by moving our property to a different (nearby) location. If I remember it right, it didn't involve a move of the pin on the map, but it did involve a ch...

Hi Nigel. The thing that impresses me most about OH is the quantity of listings that you have. You must have worked really hard on convincing the Property Managers to list and then to have worked really hard on the data integrations. What I'm not impressed by is the experience as a guest: I open the...

Security deposit shocker

Here's what our would-be guest said: I’m just a little concerned about such a big security deposit - it doesn’t sit right with me, so we won’t be going ahead. It's not as if she has accidentally added a zero on to the end of the deposit amount as she mentioned the amount in an earlier email and I co...

They phoned me a week or two back, to ask us to list our properties.

I checked whether their Adwords campaign is still running (I checked several times) but I see no sign of it. Has their money run out? If so, it's sad but inevitable.

If credible is what you are after, I think that nothing beats photos of a visitors book, like:

You can't fake that.
