It's actually illegal to rent out property without a licence from the Cyprus Tourist Office! Like everything else to do with property in Cyprus, it's a minefield.

There's another recent scam involving holidaylettings.co.uk where an individual posted an apartment in Cyprus that doesn't exist.

It came to light on AngloInfo Cyprus who removed it, so one of the victims set up another forum

I think it's the way the DNS servers work and are updated. Basically, it's a huge database that resolves all the web addresses to particular physical computers.
