Sorry this happened to you. We require immediate payment over the phone by credit card for last minute bookings, and don't consider anyone as seriously interested unless they are willing to do that. Also for a same day arrival, or even next day, we wouldn't bother asking for a signed agreement. They...

A lot of owners refer people they can't help to other owners in the same area, under a formal or informal arrangement. As well, agents who use listing sites may have multiple properties available, but only advertise one here and there. The fact that they would think you represent every other propert...

Very sad. I hope the school are going to offer grief counseling for your son and the other children. After 911, ours needed it. People's resourcefulness in the face of crisis never ceases to amaze me, especially when they have Faith to get them through. Ironically, the news is full of the Federal Fl...

That news only confirms for me that I'm doing the right thing by now warning people against using Craigslist to find rentals. What was the value of your rental? My fake inquiry came back with a contract for $2,400. That's not pocket change, that's serious fraud. Did you get the Digimarc LMH discount...

Hi Greenfrog, Join the club. That's two of us in the space of as many weeks. Mine was on Craigslist, see http://www.laymyhat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1679 (scroll down to Feb 2010 posts). It's a police matter. That said, I haven't done it yet for mine because the thought of walking into small town ...

I think I figured this out. You have standard VT pricing, not the lower merchant rate. I went through a more formal approval process to qualify for a lower merchant rate, which included a phone interview. I believe you got approved without phone interview, so I think what happened was they gave you ...

Somewhere in your Merchant Account, it will tell you your rate, like the chart I posted above. I'm not aware that VT has different rates according to the source of the money, in fact I'm pretty sure they don't. A UK CC shouldn't have made any difference. Was it an Amex by chance? Most Merchant accou...

I don't think there's anything odd about asking for temptation to removed. If I was on a diet, I wouldn't be attracted to a vacation rental where the owners included a fridge full of cakes. I would chose a home that didn't include cakes. TV cabinets were the norm here until the advent of the LCD and...

We tried that for the first 1 or 2 years, but soon gave in. Last year I had two extreme situations. Someone who refused to book unless we installed extra TVs in the bedrooms (the booking was enough to cover the cost), and someone else who refused to book unless we removed the newly installed TVs fro...

Wow, that's high - 4.1% + 30cents!! My highest rate for $0 volume in prior month is 2.9%+ 30cents, so on $1,700, I would have have paid $49.60. I would definitely phone them to query this and try and negotiate your rate down. I think you do more volume through PP than me too, as most of the big paym...

Thanks Janina. Now that I have the full header, I am not sure it tells me anything though, as it came from a Yahoo email address. By the way, your www.link doesn't seem to be working.

Your account is set to the Merchant Rate, which determines your rate based on the previous month's sales volume. Purchase payments received (monthly) Fee per transaction $0.00 USD - $3,000.00 USD 2.9% + $0.30 USD $3,000.01 USD - $10,000.00 USD 2.5% + $0.30 USD $10,000.01 USD - $100,000.00 USD 2.2% ...
