As holiday guests, we often use Helpful Holidays because they have a good selection of properties and their website is easy and pleasant to navigate, especially the way they show the pictures of the houses. The downside is the £100 security deposit, and as we are holidaying for 3 consecutive weeks i...

I am not sure what the poor guests are supposed to do? We have just returned from a boiling fortnight in the south of France and as we had hand luggage only we bought our suncreams at Boots in Stansted Airport - good offers like 2nd bottle half price, 3 for 2 etc. I know we made the white sheets at ...

The strange thing is, Emma, in our case we, as sellers, did kind of pay the commission because the buyers' offer was nearly 10% below the advertised price and they weren't prepared to budge! Were they just playing a game and almost putting the blame on the agent's commission taking the price beyond ...

It is incorrect to use the reflexive "myself, yourself" etc., and from comments on here it obviously grates with a lot of purists. From a teaching point of view, however, we are told to accept these type of "mistakes." They require no correction provided the speaker, or the write...

We considered letting our house out for The Games period. The rental round here is £1,000 per bedroom per week, so a four bedroom house would generate a nice income! Are the volunteers vetted in some way? Do you know any personally? We might be on holiday for some of the period, so the house would b...

What I don't understand is why no one thinks about using a credit card pre-auth or even just getting the clients to sign a contract which authorises a charge to their card if they cause any damage. This is the 21st century after all and every other industry relies upon credit card transactions. It's...

When our son was in university halls of residence they accidentally burnt the kitchen floor with a shisha pipe thingy! At the end of the academic year they were charged for replacing the floor. Poor students or not, they still had to pay for the damage, so should your guests!

The capital has changed so much, even in the last few years, that you will need to target your areas carefully in order to pack in as much as possible in two days. As already mentioned, the usual London attractions are a must for tourists, but bearing in mind the youngsters ages, you could make the ...

Which might possibly satisfy a casual tourist but frustrates those who know that the forest is infinitely richer, more diverse, more mysterious and much subtler than this lethargic TV image. And that's exactly it, Jimbo! 90% of the viewers of this programme are casual tourists who haven't got a clu...

We live in North/East London, on a tube line. Stansted is only 30 minutes by car or by rail from us and so we have used the Ryanair-Dinard flight on hundreds of occasions. Convenient times, being mid afternoon, so we can even have lunch before we go and dinner down by the beach in Dinard, (AND the d...
